Enhancing WordPress User Profiles

Jun 21 2010

Last week, I had the privilege of speaking to the DFW WordPress Developer and Technical User Group at their monthly meeting. There I demonstrated how to enhance WordPress for logged in users using several plugins and how to capture additional data about those users. I also showed how you can use all this information to build a team information or biography page for a corporate website, using the newly launched PowerbyProxi.com as an example.

Here’s my presentation:

Here are the plugins mentioned in the presentation:
Theme My Login
Theme My Profile
User Photo
Square Thumbnails for User Photos
Cimy User Extra Fields
Register Plus

All this week, I’ll be posting links, code and instructions on the RD2 Blog from the presentation. Tomorrow, I’ll post how to modify your functions.php, including the code you see screenshots of in the slideshow. Wednesday, I’ll post about the template file that uses your new data. Thursday, I’ll post our neato reading list functionality that uses WordPress’ built-in Link Manager.
